Men heldigvis for os valgte Magnus Vigilius at synge i Esbjerg. Bayreuth må vente. English: With the tenor Magnus Vigilius as an excellent Siegfried, the productions success is certain. Wagner could not have wished for a more good-sounding and good-looking, naive figure. It is a pleasure to listen to with both depth and volume and also an unusual scenic presence. Since Magnus Vigilius sang Siegmund (Siegfried's father) in 2017 in "The Valkyrie", there have been offers for him - also abroad. Understandably. Vigilius has already had his Bayreuth debut, and they actually asked him to return this year. But luckily for us, Magnus Vigilius chose to sing in Esbjerg. Bayreuth must wait. English: With 'Siegfried', the third milestone is reached, and the production is particularly distinguished by its singing qualities. As the natural spearhead of the cast we experience the tenor Magnus Vigilius in the title role with a performance of the first rank Siegfried's monstrous part was sung by the Danish tenor Magnus Vigilius. It is an infamous role with its demands for, on one hand, endurance and masculine strength, on the other, pure innocence and lyrical reflection. Vigilius reconciled the extremes convincingly. His voice type is not the usual, slightly heavy helden-tenor with flat intonation and pressed high notes, because his basic timbre is light, bright and round, and with his voice he could effortlessly let the expressions grow in the diverse transitions of Siegfried's awakening awareness of who he really is. When the pieces of the sword Notung had to be forged together, Mathiasen (conductor) propelled the music in a superbly coordinated interplay. It's a cool accumulative process leading up to the re-creation of the magical weapon, Siegfried taking matters into his own hands, and Vigilius has complete control over both smithing and vocal resources. English: The tenor Magnus Vigilius, who rose to the challenge as Siegmund in 'Valkyrie', has meanwhile gained an international Wagner career and has sung in Bayreuth. As Siegmund's fearless and frankly annoying as hell teenage son, Siegfried, he's now even better. There is genuine Wagnerian bite in Vigilius's lyrical-youthful heroic tenor, just as there is bite in his father's broken sword, which he recasts and sharpens. Then he is ready to slay the dragon and secure the ring of power that everyone is fighting for in Wagner's epic of gods and heroes. Thomas Michelsen - Politiken - 23. In effect his own son, since Vigilius also portrayed the father, Siegmund, when Den Ny Opera launched the big Wagner project in 2017 with "The Valkyrie". At the time, the Danish tenor received a Reumert-prize (Danish theatre prize) as Singer of the Year for his Siegmund-portrayal, and the interest in seeing him in the even more important role of dragon-warrior and avenger is rightly great. He may well, with his “hipster-bun” in the first two acts, look and move like a modern football player, but Vigilius' powerful voice is full of temperament and dramatic diction. Sune Anderberg - Kristeligt Dagblad - 22. English: An epiphany for Wagnerians in Esbjerg - This is where you get to experience world-class singers just before the opera-world snatches them from us. The tenor Magnus Vigilius is a power-house tenor - nothing fades in the full brilliance of his voice as the hours pass, while the fateful dead-end in Siegfried's character becomes poignantly evident. Meininger Staatstheater – Lohengrin - LOHENGRIN
English: In the title part the Danish tenor Magnus Vigilius had jumped in. With his flexible tenor voice he draw a differetiated portrayal: bright and cantable, never needlessly brash. Such a Narration of the Holy Grail was seldom heard, auratically and melancholically addressed to himself. A farewell scene of its own! Gerhard R. Koch, OPERNWELT 6/22
English: The most impressive singer of the evening however, was Magnus Vigilius as Lohengrin. Perfectly differentiated, the tall, slender tenor presented his lyrical, refined, beautifully timbred voice, combining it with a robust, masculine way of singing. Well-versed, nearly without any conventional losses, Vigilius’ singing was technically perfectly disposed. He performed the Story of the Grail with impressive legato culture and silvery bright shining brilliance. Der Neue Merker 6/2022 Gerhard Hoffmann
In the titel part the Danish tenor Magnus Vigilius has jumped in. With his flexible tenor voice he draws a differentiated portrayal: bright and cantable, never needlessly brash. Such a narration of the Grail was seldom heard, so auratic But the greatest gain is the Danish tenor Magnus Vigilius, who jumped in for the indisposed Michael Siemon. Just like his interpretation of Stolzing in the Leipzig "Meistersinger” premiere last autumn, his appearance on stage almost seemed youthful. A similar performance was probably last seen many years ago in Katharina Wagner’s “Meistermaler” in Bayreuth with Klaus Florian Vogt. Vocally, but above all visually Vigilius is a truly convincing Heldentenor. Don’t let go of this man! Richard Wagner Zentrum Mitteldeutschland – Thomas Krakow
…with Magnus Vigilius a Lohengrin with an extremely strong personality enters the stage. Magnus Vigilius, who has already sung Parsifal and Siegmund after his Bayreuth Froh in the Castorf production of 2013, portrays the role much more vividly, more executively I should say, than other role interpreters. His interpretation shows us a Lohengrin whose character is strongly anchored in his mission but who is at the same time extremely emotional. This Lohengrin is absolutely credible, one believes everything he says. He makes an absolutely authentic and therefore sovereign impression. It is exciting to follow the tragical development of Vigilius‘ failed mission. He has a perfectly guided, rather bright timbred and yet expressive tenor voice with a lyrical touch and plenty of legato. This, together with his absolute security in the high repertoire, perfectly suits the astral character of the Swan’s Knight . On top, Vigilius uses the appropriate facial expression in every situation

Thüringer Allgemeine www.thueringer-allgemeine.de Not only visually, Magnus Vigilius is the first choice for the role of this noble knight. Blond, tall and slim, in his white suit, he radiates purity and splendor. Also his voice, distinctive but yet delicate, cultivated and well intelligible…
Inge Kutsche www.deropernfreund.de Magnus Vigilius as Lohengrin began the rehearsals only one week before the premiere. He doesn’t play the role with huge heroic gestures, but very lyrical, almost with tenoral blaze. His powerful fundament is a safe restraint for the outbursts at the end of the second act and in the great duet in the Bride’s room Höchstes Vertrau’n. Here, the voice develops the necessary brilliance to be heard , based on a warm middle register. Intimately, almost like a song and therefore particularly impressing, Vigilius sings the Narration of the Holy Grail. His final farewell captivates by its huge differentiation in phrasing and the dynamic elaboration.
Andreas Hölscher
But what makes this Meiningen „Lohengrin“ quiet outstanding is a kind of musical quality, that easily stands up to any comparison. Though Leipzig had foreseen Klaus Florian Vogt as the swan knight, the vocal brilliance and the visual shining light which Magnus Vigilius presented in Meiningen, can perfectly keep up with him. One can hardly do better in this role!

wAlthough of Danish origin, the tenor Magnus Vigilius is a highly gifted interpreter of Leos Ja Janáček ‘s operas and a regular guest of the Brno Janáček Festival. As Janik in “Diary of One who disappeared”, he gave proof of power, intensity, text skills and a remarkable stamina.
At least partially, Magnus Vigilius gets the opportunity to express an ambivalent inner life. In the part of Boris, Vigilius, who is a born heldentenor, is also a top cast in the lyrical domain.

English: Vigilius has a smooth tenor voice, which he can turn up and down in volume as needed. When Cavaradossi stands in Scarpia's headquarters, quietly dismissive despite the prospect of torture and death, with the malice latent in the orchestral music and the sound of the beloved Tosca singing in the theater nearby, one senses a stage craftsmanship that can capture the great emotions in many layers. He is on the verge of entering a new league, the 45-year-old Vigilius, with the calendar filled up with Wagner-roles around Europe, even in Bayreuth this summer. He has guested many houses with the role of the loving and idealistic Caravadossi for some years now, and it also fits him perfectly in Malmö. He delivers a sharp, precise psychological portray of a character in a crisis, which can often become one-dimensional, and this with an impressive vocal stamina.

English:
The star on Saturday was clearly the debutant Magnus Vigilius, who introduced himself in the role of Grail Knight Lohengrin, who comes to mortals because of his love for Elsa. The part of Lohengrin is extremely demanding. The biggest burden for the singer in the third act. Vigilius is in my opinion very well suited for this role. His voice was unmistakable in every situation and never exhausted. His acting performance was very appealing and impressive and beyond that very precise. Both phrasing and diction were well thought out. ...... The libretto about the trials of the knight was supported by his interpretation and he was well able to assert it in his interactions with Dana Burešová - this was particularly evident in the lively scene in the wedding chamber in the third act. Where and when will we see him again as Lohengrin ( after the re-performance in Prague on November 23) is still uncertain. His debut in this role, however, suggests that these could be quite remarkable events.

Števa, his halfbrother and rival is a spoiled child, loved by everybody, of which he takes great advantage. He is a good-looking young man, a womanizer, mostly drunk, disgusting and fickle. This difficult role is beautifully portrayed by Magnus Vigilius with his sonorous voice, he masters the part with bravura, clearly and perfectly projected. Classiquenews www.classiquenews.com
Števa is a bigmouth, a night owl, rich (inhereting a mill of half an hectare), disgusting and a coward, not only in Jenufa’s presence. Rich in vocal color with an enormous verve, one cannot but pity him in his drunkenness, outcast and abandoned, when he sees everything around him breaking down. Magnus Vigilius with his clear voice and marvelous timbre fills the character with power and an extraordinary presence. Forumopera www.forumopera.com
But it is the tenor Magnus Vigilius who lifts the performance. Touching, when he sings so quietly and softly that the words almost disappear. Frightening, when the vocal power and doubt in God give full throttle. Sincere and tender, when he reaches the falsetto. Vigilius’ primordial power is not only his voice but also his dramatic talent. He portrays a man of flesh and blood in the otherwise neat and anonymous celebrant, and he lets him in the 14-minutes-long madnessaria cling to his life and mind with the tip of his finger nails. Magnus Vigilius conveys the torturous journey of the Celebrant so captivating that everyone understands it.
